Frequently Asked Questions


Please choose the issue you are experiencing with your Sentinel®:· Will the Sentinel® work with Electric-Hydraulic Brakes?· All of the lights are flashing when the brakes are applied.· The trailer is connected, but no Green light is indicating so.· There are no brakes when using the brake pedal, but there are brakes with the manual.· The level light will not come on when applying the brake pedal.· If you need further assistance or are experiencing a concern not listed here.

Q.) Will the Sentinel® work with Electric-Hydraulic Brakes?
A.) Tekonsha® brake controls are designed to operate electric brakes that are activated by magnets. They have not been tested for the use on electric/hydraulic brake systems. Please contact the manufacturer of the hydraulic control unit for their recommendations.

Q.) All of the lights are flashing when the brakes are applied.
A.) The Sentinel® has to have a complete circuit on the Blue wire to the magnets then to ground and the proper resistance. Possible Causes:
  · Short to ground on the brake circuit wire.
· Power backfeed on Blue wire.
· Electric/Hydraulic brakes.
· Faulty control.

Q.) The trailer is connected, but no Green light is indicating so.
A.) The Sentinel® has to have a complete circuit to ground through the brake magnets on the Blue wire with the proper resistance to turn on the Green light on. Possible Causes:
  · No power on Black wire.
· Bad ground on White wire.
· Open in brake circuit wire.
· Truck and trailer mis-wired.
· Faulty control.

Q.) There are no brakes when using the brake pedal, but there are brakes with the manual.
A.) Possible Causes:
  · No power on Red wire with brake pedal depressed.
· Control not leveled properly.
· Faulty control.

  · No power on Black wire.
